Leave your lighting stuff back home. It's light all night this far North. There is a lot of weather in Vesterålen; Good outdoor clothing recommended. Tents should be of the kind suitable for a bit rough weather - just in case... though it's possible to get indoor if it gets real bad. It is poor outside GSM cell-phone coverage, but there is a coin phone at Skipnes. Skipnes is on Tindsøya (an Island), far from central areas, but here's a boat coming and going every day.

Plane:
1. Oslo/Bergen/Stavanger/Trondheim to Evenes. Bus Evenes to Sortland.
2. Oslo/Bergen/Stavanger/Trondheim to Stokmarknes via Bodø. Bus from Stokmarknes to Sortland.

By train:
1. Oslo to Fauske. Bus from Fauske to Sortland.
2. Through Sweden (Kiruna) to Narvik. Bus from Narvik to Sortland.

By boat:
Coastal express from Bergen to Sortland. (Kayak may be taken along as accompanying baggage.)

By car:
1. The R 85 runs trough Sortland For those who do not have car transport, a bus will be chartered from Sortland Hotel to the registration point at Sandset on Sunday 25 July at 05:30 and 08:30 p.m.

ASKR has access to a number of kayaks for hire. These will be reserved primarily for participants coming from distant places by plane, as well as for course participants who do not own their own kayaks. Included with each kayak are paddles, spray cover and life vest. The equipment will be issued upon your arrival at Skipnes.
Rental fees are NOK 1500. In addition, an NOK 1000 deposit is required per kayak.
The deposit will be refunded upon delivery of all undamaged equipment.
