Klare-for-kort-ramble

ASK Camp is planned as a paddling course for novices and for those who already have some paddling experience but who want to increase their kayaking enjoyment by learning more about safety, paddling techniques and planning of trips. The course comprises a theoretical and a practical part. Theory and performance go hand in hand, and most of the course takes place in the kayak itself. The camp has Skipnes as its home base. during the first day, we will remain at the camp, but from day two we will be out paddling practicing what we have learned. The scope of the course will be adapted to the needs of the participants, as well as to weather conditions. Registration at Sandset on Sunday. There will be arranged transportation out to Skipnes. The course begins Monday 26 July 2010 at 10 a.m. at Skipnes. Participants who wish to hire a kayak and equipment will be issued these at the start of the course.

In general participants are expected to provide their own kayak and necessary equipment. The condition of the craft must be checked beforehand, so that other participants are not inconvenienced while waiting for YOU to repair deficiencies and damage that should have been detected and fixed before we meet as a group. Participants are also expected to provide their own food and overnight accommodation. See General information.

Starting fee NOK 2 900 includes parking, instruction, compendium, course completion certificate, dry/wetsuits, water supply, shower, facilities for drying clothing and equipment, as well as the final banquet on Friday evening at the end of the paddling week.

Skipnes has its own info site www.skipnes.com but the following provides additional information:

FOOD:
The shop has a limited selection of food items, but all common foods can be ordered in advance so that you can get what you ordered the following day. With a little planning, this will function well.

It is also possible to purchase the dinner meal, or full board.

KAYAK:
The course last 5 days; each day begins with an indoor theory session before we go out in the kayaks for practical training.

Each day we will make beach stops, with food breaks, before the second practical session begins. A packed lunch and extra clothing must be brought along each day. During the week, approximately 40 - 50 km is paddled, with distances gradually increased each day.

A successfully completed course is equivalent to Level 3 of the "Wet Card" certification.

CLOSING OF THE EVENTS:
Friday evening is a social occasion, including prize awards, diplomas - and wet card certification. It is highly recommended that you join us!

Return to Sandset is Saturday from about 11 a.m. and into the afternoon. (The equipment shuttle boat runs until everything has been returned) Many course participants (and others as well) choose to paddle back.
